high mileage oil

Recently I put out a post about filters for oil change and types of oil i should use. Unfortunately I haven't done it yet but I will do a seafoam treatment to the engine. I was at walmart I saw many high mileage oils. What should I use here is the selection my walmart has

5 quart jugs

supertech high mileage 5w-30 for $12.50

pennzoil high mileage 5w-30 $16.50

castrol gtx high mileage 5w-30 $18.50



I'm really interested in what you all have to say about the supertech high mileage since its the cheapest out of all of them,

Supertech isnt bad stuff actually. Its Pennzoil supposedly. Pennzoil isnt bad stuff either. If you want something thats a bit cheaper than Castrol Valvoline is a great choice and walmart should have it.



Castrol is my fave and it really is a good oil. If your in Cali I would just run 10w30 year round, especially if your over 100k. But Castrol + WIX/Napa Gold filter every 3500-4000 miles = a really, really good oil change that isn't just absurdly expensive.

Difference lies in the detergents, etc... All of those brands are good so it really doesn't matter which you get. Just change your oil regularly. If you don't have any leaks, gaskets and seals are good, I say go get regular oil. Its cheaper. Also, go with 10W-30 if you have the 5S-FE, dunno about 1MZ-FE. Temps can get somewhat high inland during the summer time.

i got to school in Davis which is 30 minutes away from Sacramento, since summer is coming soon the highest temperature is around 100 degrees, so should I use 10w-30 and i forgot i have the v6 1mzfe.

Looking at the manual, it says 5W-30 is preferred, but the temps go from 100 to 0. Since it doesn't get that cold in Sac or Monterrey, I would go ahead with 10W-30. Temps can go above 100 there. But, its really your choice...you wont have a problem with either one.

And at Walmart there 5 QT, not the 1 US GAL. For for me ever 2 oil changes my third one I only have to buy a filter.

Is the intent of the additive package in these "high mileage" oils really to address wear issues from mileage, or are they appropriate for 10+ year old cars even if they have very low mileage?

Toyota recommends ILSAC GF-4 or higher. Mobil1 Hi mileage is only ILSAC GF-3 quality

true. will test if it makes any difference for the engine soon

but honestly toyota also recommends a conventional oil in our cars and yet no one really runs that. also conventional oils usually meet ILSAC GF-4 while same grade synthetic does ILSAC GF-3. does it mean that conventional is better? you tell me.

Well thanks for telling me that I've been considering switching my car off a Castrol Diet, which is all it's had, to the Mobil1 HM Synthetic. I guess not then



Asking what kind of oil you prefer is like asking what kind of shampoo you use: Everyone will tell you something different. Personally, I let my car speak for itself. Castrol 5W30 oil, the HM version since 120K, now at 230K original miles. You should have seen my inside my valve cover, I could eat dinner off of it

well, I think you guys are missing the point what the ILSAC GF-4 means actually ... it's just a series of test with reference to base oil (5w-30 in this certification) and that also includes energy conserving directive (Starburst). I'm pretty sure Mobil1 FS HM passes all wear and tear directives with flying colors, but thicker formula of HM version doesn't pass the energy efficiency increase over the base reference oil, nothing more.



note that regular (non-HM) Mobil1 Full synthetic is compatible with ILSAC GF-4, however thicker HM one is not.



anyways, everybody uses what they like, I'm trusting M1 and like running full synthetic fluids in my cars, so that's what I'd use.



if you like there is also Valvoline MaxLife Full Synthetic alternative which passes ILSAC GF-4
