problems removing power steering pulley (91 4runner)

i have a 91 4runner, 6 cyl. working on replacing the powersteering pump and i'm stuck at the pulley removal. the pulley is solid, no holes in it to wedge a wrench into or anything. the genius that designed the mount made the bolt too long to remove with the pulley on.

no matter how tight i adjust the belt, the pulley slips when i wrench on the bolt. i have tried to wedge a wrench in between the pulley and belt, but no luck.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

that sucks.try to look it up in the Haynes catalog or Chiltons at pep boys or auto zone.....you also might want to ask the boys down at www.lcengineering.com they also specialize in the truck motors

I removed mine with the pulley intact. I warped the pulley trying to pull mine off & said to h*ll with it. Bought a reman unit & replaced the entire pump w/pulley. Got pics?

gonzo

I use an impact gun to remove the pulley shaft bolt. It works like a champ. You can hold the pulley with a pair of vise grips. You can even hold it with your hand and a rag.
