Broken rear sliding door handle.

Yesterday I went to open the rear passenger siding door on our 2000 Sienna and snap. Broke completely. Anyone ever try to fix a broken door handle. Since it's plastice I'm a bit leary but can't seem to find a used light blue one online.

These and the back door latch are the worst parts on our vans. Most people simply replace them with black after market handles. That's what I've done for the three on my van that have broken. At one point the passenger front door handle was the only one that still worked.

This is an easy fix. First take out the screw in the bottle container on the door. Then pop off the the top panel ( top of door) and then the whole lower panel ( it has plastic clips all around the outside and 1 just a little off center), it's fairly easy. This will expose the 2 screws that hold the door handle on. You will need to disconnect the cable from the inside. Again easy. Just unscrew the front and back screws and the handle comes off. Make sure you put some tape or something on the socket when you remove the screws ( to keep it tight) because if they drop in the door it will take an extendable magnet or someone with a very small hand to fish it out. If your door buttons stick like mine did then remove the upper door trim on the inside and then the side trim on the left to open up to see the button. 2 screws on the bottom and 1 behind the round pop out cover(top). Just be careful never to pry on glass. I sprayed mine with a lubricant. Works fine now. Make sure the cable is on before you put the panel back on and test the new door handle before putting it all back together.

In the event you should want to just replace it with an OEM one, I do sell to TN members for 30% off MSRP and I only charge actual shipping costs plus $1.00 - $2.00 to cover materials, etc. MSRP on a door handle is $95.94 and a TN member would pay $67.16 plus about $9.00 for shipping to PA.

If you have any questions, even if you don't buy this from me, PLEASE don't hestiate to contact me.

The Sienna door handles aren't very hard to get to. That's funny that you said your driver's side handle is about to give out all together. That's what happened to mine. On my driver's side handle the back part broke into two pieces. This was completely different from how the other three broke.

No offense part man but I got mine for 30 a piece and in this case I figured that there wasn't much of a risk with after market parts. Just look how the original ones held up.

No offense taken. I am all for the members saving money. If the aftermarket ones fit and hold up, how can I argue with that.

I went to ebay motors and did a parts search for my year Toyota and bought the sliding door handle on the passenger side and the rear hatch. Both have different prices for the same parts and make sure if your sliding door handle has a keyhole to get that one, and if not to get the one w/o the keyhole. The front door handle or latch also if you need that too. They come in a dull black, but you can paint them before you put it on if you want to. I am very innovative so I fixed the driver side door latch so I did not have to replace it. I got the picts on the internet by googling 98 toyota door latch repair. One guy had the picts that were good enough for me. The back latch was very simple. More just removing cover parts than anything else. 2 nuts and the cable attachment. When you remove the back plastic cover over the latch be very careful, the left side has a plastic connection and the right side has a screw. Just take the screw off from the inside and then go to the outside and carefully slide the cover to the left or outside edge. This will give you access to the handle to come off once its nuts are removed.

The sliding door was the same. The front door are a lot more complicated. See the pictures on the web as I wrote. http://www.findonefindall.com/toyota...doorhandle.htm

Its been kinda rough lately. Money has been tight but I was able to find someone locally that got me the part for about the same price and will charge a meager fee for the install.

I found out the OEM color is not what I have.. the car has been repainted over a different color....GRRR..LOL

I will see if I can offer his service to someone locally on the boards.

Thanks to all.

I just recently put the last of the black handles on my van. Here is a pic I took of the new handle after the install. The install is very simple and only requires a philips head screw driver and a ten millimeter socket.

First you remove the cupholder by pulling on it. Then remove the screw that is behind/inside the cupholder. After that the rest of the door panel snaps off. Pop the door latch cable out of the handle and unhook it. There are two ten millimeter bolts on the inside of the door that holds the handle on.

That's it and installation is the reverse of removal.

  1. Sliding doors are a very good way to save the area and make the room spacious. They are very convenient to use, and at the same time look very stylish. Sliding glass doors allow light in the room and make the room look larger.
