Rattling and Clunking Solved

I thought my wheel wells were the source of a clunking that was driving me nuts on rough roads. I determined that the main source was the front right bed mount bolt was loose. I cranked on it with a T-50 torx wrench (too small but it worked. i didn't have T-55) and that went away. i figured it out because (duh), i could lift up on the freakin' bed of the truck a little and generate a little clunk. I get the feeling i could lift the bed and throw it across my yard if it wsan't connected to the frame. it's so light.

The damn wheel wells still rattle all over the place. When i bang on the outside of the rear fenders, there's a lot of clunking. I almost want to remove the fenders and shore everything up in there with some better fasteners. The automotive fasteners they use to connect all that light plastic in the wheel well simply don't do the job very well.

Is there a post in here about this process? Is the fender easy to remove without messing up the seal that's at the metal-plastic joint??? I thought I saw something on this a while ago but I can't find it now. Unfortunately there's a million "rattle" threads.

Thanks. Try lifting on your bed and see if you need to tighten the aforementioned bolts.

Did you hear this clunk when going over jarring bumps in the rear?

yes, heard it when going over bumps in the road. mostly potholes and stuff like that

nothing huge.. just minor stuff. definitely not a bottoming out sound or anything like that.

i'm interested in this as well... I HATE all of the rattles that come from the wheel wells

totally man.. i basically took my motorcycle apart and put it back together to fix a rattle..haha

rattles are the "annoyingest"

For the rattling on the rear wheel wells I removed the two cubby bins inside the bed. This gives you access to the inside of the fenders. Then I took a bunch of old rags and stuffed in there until the flare no longer rattled when I hit the side of the truck. Replaced bins and that was that, and nearly 2 years ago.

A ghetto fix for a ghetto design as far as I'm concerned...

Glad I found this because those rattles are driving me nuts! Every small bump I hit the wheel wells rattle, sounds like my truck is about to fall apart. I'll have to investigate, see if the bed is loose, or maybe try that ghetto rag fix.

This is an interesting post... I have the typical fender rattle, but I have another one too. It sounds like the sound made when you leave the hitch in the receiver and it bangs around in the square hole. I wonder if my bed is loose too? Although I can't imagine it being loose already, I only have 139K! LOL
