LED for fogs and DRL's?

So im thinking about just going with VLED's for my fog lights and DRL/Highbeam lights, I was wondering if anyone has done this already?

I just want to know if they are bright enough. Would they be brighter than aftermarket halogen bulbs like luminics or nokya?

those bulbs are HELLA expensive though, so i just want to make sure its worth it.

XR had LED fogs for a while and know he had some issues with them getting wet.

I doubt it'd be as bright as the halogens.

Re: LED bulbs for DRL Highbeam ....

Very bad idea. the Lumen rating of the LED bulb won't be the same compared to stock bulb sitting out on its own out of the enclosure, and the directional properties of the LED emitters are such that in the enclosure you will see quite a decrease in total output as well.

All of the enclosures (high and low beam) are designed to capture light from a filament located at a precise spot in the enclosure. The correct placement of this point source can only be found using proper halogen bulbs in our cars. ANYTHING else will be inferior (regardless of opinion on HID kits or LED you may have read) in some way whether it be beam pattern or intensity or both. The design of the enclosure can't be refuted.

hmm ok thanks leanburn, ill stick with halogen for my highbeams and fogs.

Do you think it would be ok to use LED's for my brake/tail lights? or is that also not as bright?

brakes/tails should be fine. I have LEDs for my Reverse lights and love them! Want to get LED switchbacks for front turn signals and eventually LED tails.

-i think the 3rd brake light is LED if I'm not mistaken, but could be wrong.

remember youll need the dual filament type bulb. i dont recommend changiong the brake lights to leds!(unless you buy the depo oem unit or the ebay taillights)

XR only had problems because since he made them, the LEDs werent covered with anything (exposed to the elements) which eventually wore them out.

i think Timm is thining about the bulbs that look like halogens but filled with like 60 tiny leds.

i had them...they arent that bright...output wise like leanburn said.

they do look nice but yeah not safe.

DEFINITELY NOT FOR YOUR HIGH BEAMS.

i always wanted to use them as DRLS but we would have no high beams then ...too scary

switchbacks are probably your best bet.

thanks can you point me in the right direction for these switchbacks you speak of? lol

But yeah heres my set up so far:

Lows: DDM slim ballast HID 6k

DRL/Highs: Stock (getting either luminics pure blue or nokya artic white) any suggestions on that?

Fogs: Stock (got yellow overlay tint which makes it look yellow, but still plan on getting either nokya or lumincs jdm yellow bulbs) suggestions welcome on that also.

as for the back, im probably only going to change the brake lights and reverse lights to LED's but the brake light LED's on VLED cost an arm and a leg.

i dont really want to mess with the turn signals because i have no clue how to install load resistors or how they even work. maybe just keep it stock. wish i did know how though. lol

EDIT: Literally 5 minutes after i posted this i googled Luminics vs nokya, seems everyone favors lumics because it has more output. so i bought some Pure Blue's for my high beams. lol hope i wont be dissapointed.

I used to have yellow fog overlay but due to the heat from the fog light, it left a burning mark right in the middle, not to mention the overlay decrease the output by much.....so nokya hyper yellow will be the one I suggest.

For headlight, I use Mtec Super white. I am more than happy with them.

For tail, just swap them into LED tail. Looks good, don't have to deal with any bulbs changing.

Yep. Don't go LEDs for DRL/Highbeams. I've heard that highbeams does not work properly when using LEDs due to its low voltage. Someone correct me if I'm wrong... However, I use LEDs for my fogs. The output looks well.

Btw, I'm Selling my MTEC Superwhite for high beams 9005. Never used but was opened. Here's the link http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...ght=emerson323
