Anybody replaced a dash pad?

My dash pad has cracks all over it, and no, I never once used armor all or any other cleaner. Just wiped with a damp cloth.

The dealer quote is $1100 for the dash and $830 for the labor. That's a lot of money, but I use my 4Runner to drive clients, and I can't have a cracked dash. I looked at the instructions to remove it, and there are a ton of steps. I was wondering if anybody has every tried replacing theirs and if they can comment on the difficulty. I'm especially interested if any of the steps can be skipped or what you used for "special tools" such as a steering wheel puller.

Thanks for any thoughts.

My wife has an 05 4 runner and have not had the issue so can't help out on the removal.

Thanks. I'm getting some more quotes to get it done. I'd really like to hear from somebody before embarking on this myself. My big concern is getting everything hooked back up correctly, and having to redo it myself or take it back to a shop multiple times!

Some pics for fun:

Hairline crack all across front edge.

Piece above vent that peeled up and then broke off; crack down middle around the bottom and back up the side.

Wow that is scary stuff. I thought the dash material would hold up better then that.

I guess the TEXAS SUN will do that. JEEZ I use a sun shade to prevent some heat. When I clean the dash I use more of the conditioner/cleaners more than that shiny wipe that looks just looks good and leaves that greasy look.

I have the same issue, 2 cracks (both starting from the dash area). I am going to try to get an interior specialist to repair it. The Toyota dealership recommended me one and told me they are good at matching the repair with the dash. I will probably have this attempted within the next couple of weeks if the price is right.

I've never seen a vehicle this new have dash cracks, other than some POS S-10. Even not using a sun shade, a dash shouldn't crack in a vehicle less than 10 years old and I've seen vehicles 20 years old that have no cracks in them.

Wow, I live in the dfw and this has never happened on any of our cars. Not even our van that sat in direct sunglight for 2 years.
