I'm thinking of selling my wife's trusty 2000 4Runner sport with 205k on it to get a used 4th gen truck. I know TPMS started in 2006 and I know about the Xreas suspension in the sports (and maybe limited's) but I really want something without a ton of electrical crap in the driveline. I know they all now have traction control and stabilty control and some of them have full time AWD. What years were available without all this crap? I don't want traction control or stability control or the active suspension. I want a true fully 50/50 locked transfer case with part time 4WD. I want the 5 speed automatic so that means I believe an 05 or newer.

Or a Landcruiser.

She would love a 100 series landcruiser but it's got to get at least 20mpg highway. My pockets are only deep enough to feed one landcruiser and I prefer that to be my FJ40.

Maybe you should look for a 3rd Gen that has lower millage??? The 4th Gen and beyond have all the electric stuff.

86gt,
Yeah unfortunatly, a different breed. I own a 03 and spite all the electronics I still like it. I like the power of the 4.7L v-8 and it is very smooth running. No issues at all.

If you want to keep the 4th generation for a long time, run far away from the X-Reas suspension. Doesn't last the life of the vehicle, very expensive to repair or replace (with a different system).
Don't take my word for it...do a google search.

Don't be too concerned about a failure in the X-REAS. While it's expensive to repair, it can be replaced with standard shocks. Bilstein 5100s are a good choice, and reasonably priced.
