Hi
I have a 1996 Tacoma 2 wheel drive automatic transmission 2.4 engine.
I have like a bearing noise when I idle but when I give it the gas It goes away.
Any guesses
Brian
Reply 1 : Noise from the front bottom of engine?
I think it's timing belt related. Does any one know how long it takes to replace the guides on the timing chain? Or how much it would cost to have someone do it ?
Thanks
Brian

Try removing the serpentine belt, and start the engine just long enough to ascertain if the noise is gone. If the noise is gone, you may have a bad idler pulley or belt tensioner pulley. If your luck isn't that good, you may have a bad bearing in the waterpump, alternator, p/s pump or other belt driven accessory. With the engine shut off and belt removed, you should be able to spin each pulley by hand to see which is the culprit.
Good luck!
